2009 Southern Highlands Legends Classic

2009 Southern Highlands Legends Classic

The Inaugural Southern Highlands Legends Classic

Bowral Golf Club  -  Tuesday 17th November 2009

What a Day!

On Tuesday the 17th November, 2009 the Bowral Golf Club hosted the inaugural Southern Highlands Legends Classic. The event was a resounding success.  So much so that we are already in negotiations with the event organisers, Larry Canning and Steve Anderson and the PGA Legends Tour committee to finalize the date for 2010.

The feed back from our members and guests who played, or simply took to the fairways to enjoy the spectacle, has been extremely positive. I think all who participated would agree that no matter what your handicap, the day offers a truly enjoyable golfing experience and one not to be missed in the future.

Steve and Larry have also confirmed that the professional players and the PGA Legends Tour rated our PRO/AM very highly, with the event being well run and the course being presented in such excellent condition. The welcoming atmosphere provided by the club and its members was really appreciated and will no doubt ensure a high interest from the tour pro’s for next years event.

With 62 PGA Legend Tour Professionals and 90 amateurs taking to the field in two separate shot gun starts and we where treated to some fine displays of shot making and some really competitive play as the teams of three amateurs and one pro endeavoured to be the inaugural winners of this marquee event.

That honour went to the team of Robyn McGinnes, Noela McMurray, Wendy Burke and their pro Allan May with the score of 87 in the best 2 of 4 Stableford format.  So congratulations to our winners and well played - we look forward to you defending your title next year.

There was a lot of work over the last three to four months to make sure the classic would be one to remember and no more so than Damien and his team out on the course. I think it is fair to say that the Bowral Golf Course has never looked as good, or played as well and is something we as members will be able to continue to enjoy for months to come.  A fantastic effort from our green staff.

You have set the bar very high for next year and I have no doubt it will be even better for 2010.

A special thanks to our Club Captain, David Stanley and our Director of Operations, Tony White who’s time, energy and attention to detail in the closing stages ensured that we were able to facilitate such a fantastic day. Also, a big thanks to all the volunteers for their help on the course and around the club house and to our committed and hard working staff, a tremendous effort all round!

There is something very special about being involved in the first of any event and I would like to congratulate our members who took part and made the day such a fantastic success. One of our clubs great attributes is the preparedness of the members to get behind and support new events thus making them long standing fixtures for many years to come. There is no doubt that The Southern Highlands Legends Classic will become one of the marquee events not only of the Bowral Golf Club, but also the Southern Highlands region and the Legends Tour as well.

We are currently looking to host next years event, so make a note in your diary to make sure you don’t miss out next year as based on this years response, the field will fill up fast!!!

Bring on next year!!
